The bottom-to-top flow design of the Tidal Power Filter is such that the pump pushes water up into the basket, entering through the bottom and being pushed out the top. This ensures that the water comes into contact with all the filter media, preventing it from going around or over the media as can happen with hang-on-back filters with a back-to-front flow.

Over time, the filtration media can become clogged with detritus, reducing or obstructing the flow of water. When this occurs in the Tidal Power Filter, the water is redirected around the filter and back into the aquarium through a side outlet. This redirected water then pushes up the blue maintenance alert on the top of the filter, signaling that the filter needs to be cleaned.

The surface skimmer on the Tidal Power Filter captures water from just below the surface, where fish oils accumulate, as well as from deeper in the tank, removing floating debris. The flow on the pump is adjustable using the dial on the front, allowing you to regulate the performance to suit your specific aquarium volume, type, or provide an environment for fish that prefer more or less water movement or oxygenation.
